3 Problems We Encountered While Mapping Listings from SiteMinder to Airbnb—and How We Solved Them

When it comes to integrating listings between SiteMinder and Airbnb, the process is often more complicated than it seems. After encountering over 45 failed uploads, my team discovered the key to success through persistence and trial and error. Here's what we learned:

1. Address Mismatch Causes Mapping Failures

If you're mapping to an active Airbnb listing, the property address in your SiteMinder configuration must exactly match the address in Airbnb. Even small discrepancies can prevent successful synchronization. Double-check the address fields to save yourself hours of frustration.

2. Selecting the Right Listing Type for Hotels

Hotels using SiteMinder must select "Private Room" as the listing type, even if the listing fits the "Entire Apartment" category. Choosing the wrong type will result in errors, and the connection will fail. Once the mapping is complete, you can update the listing type directly in Airbnb.

3. Stay Logged Into Airbnb Host Platform as Admin

When saving your channel configuration in SiteMinder, ensure that you're logged into Airbnb as an admin in the same browser. This step ensures the connection process doesn't stall. Without this, listings often get stuck in the dreaded “In Progress” or “Importing” status.

Final Tip

If a listing remains stuck in yellow status (e.g., "In Progress"), it's often quicker to delete the mapping and start over—while meticulously following the steps above.
