Olón is located in front of the Pacific Ocean in the Ruta del Spondylus (formerly known as Ruta del Sol), 5 minutes drive from Montañita and 2 hours, 20 minutes from Guayaquil. It has 2 miles of beach coastline, a secondary drizzle forest of 5.780 hectares and an average temperature of 75 °F.
This town has much more to offer than just sun and beach.
Juan Carlos Ríos, head chef and creator of the Noah Resto Café menu, told us that Olón has become a gastronomic hub with more than 50 restaurants. He is right. In a short walk we were able to find fresh seafood, Indian, Thai and Mexican offers. We were amazed with ice creams from another planet and also delight ourselves with some heavenly churros just a few steps away.
On this occasion we’re going to share our experience at Noah Resto Café, which we categorize without any doubt as the best restaurant in Olón.
Noah offers the new Ecuadorian cuisine. I had heard very good comments from my group of friends and I had it on my bucketlist on Ruta del Spondylus in Ecuador.
We were very surprised. Juan Carlos, better known as “The Chinese Ríos”, with Tomi Susanne and Nabila Alvarado have created a different proposal with great taste. You can find the beauty of flowers, the aroma of good coffee and exquisite Ecuadorian food in the same place.
I highlight the proper use of indoor lightning, the photographic decoration, the open kitchen, its location with easy access, driving or walking, and outdoor tables.
We were greeted with some slices of sourdough bread, something not so common to find in this area, with hummus.
In the mains, I was seduced by the fish encocado, a thick cut of sea bass bathed in a very balanced coconut sauce, accompanied by andean avocado and rice with crispy quinoa. I must confess that this last ingredient pop up in my mouth. I eat a lot of quinoa, but I hadn't done it this way before.
Álvaro was convinced by the chef's recommendation, the catch of the day: grilled huayaipe, accompanied with a pumpkin puree, ginger and honey; and asparagus in butter with mustard pickles. This high-end dish can only be found here.
The cooking terms of both fishes were “al dente”. Nothing dry, nothing raw. Each fish tenderloin glided perfectly when sliced.
For dessert we ordered the chocolate volcano, an elixir made with real 70% Olón chocolate: Chocolon, accompanied with caramel ice cream from Heladería Neptuno.
I had tried many volcanoes in other places, but I must say that this one had something that others cannot match, and not only because of its taste, but because you could feel the collaborative work of many local businesses in it.
There is no better feeling for us than finding places that seek to promote each other to strengthen a destination and don’t see themselves as competition. Big applause for that.
We found the food so good that we went back the next day for the tomato cream soup and the lentils’ risotto-like covered with fine beef tenderloins. They didn’t disappoint us, rather they left us wanting to return and recommend them loudly.
The menu is changed every 3 months, a sign of a lot of creativity. As Noah affirms: living is changing, and being perfect is having changed many times. They know that as humans we are not perfect, but we seek that. Each dish they create is done with love and seeking that perfection.
We recommend it also because of the high quality of all their products. I have no doubt that you will be satisfied.
